Native support for Sbt Remote Cache

Published: August 19, 2026

Another week, another natively supported build system in BuildFetch Cache!

This time we have added support for Sbt 2.x Remote Cache.

Free for Open Source projects!

Sbt is actively used to build Scala projects by:

We're happy to bring Remote Build Caching for faster builds and test caching to the Scala teams!

See Configure Sbt Remote Cache setup docs for more details.

Technical Extravaganza

With Sbt added as a second natively supported build system over Bazel REAPI gRPC protocol, we introduced reapi/sbt/projectId schema to our REAPI instance_name to properly distinguish build clients for best compatibility and future-proofing.

Sbt was added to our end-to-end automated integration test suite ensuring that:

  • sbt 2.x properly recognizes BuildFetch Cache as compliant gRPC REAPI Remote Cache server
  • BuildFetch Cache serves expected cache miss/hit requests on backend side
  • sbt experimental_execution_log JSON output actually logs skipping local task execution due to remote cache hits!

Product Vision

With this Sbt release, BuildFetch Cache now natively supports seven build systems with end-to-end integration tests.

We're continuing our release streak of new native build system supported every week, but that is not all.

Our team is working hard on a new Product which we plan to privately demo later this Fall. Stay tuned!
